consists of Hayley Bonnick on guitar and backing vocals. Alex Stamp on vocals and electric piano. Two girls with plenty of attitude, and a passion for music who met during 2004 and hit it off immediately. The band name was a direct lift from a Chemistry textbook that Hayley was referring to while doing her homework one night. “ I just thought it was a great name for a band.” She joked. I never thought it would stick!” Hayley, who had been taking guitar lessons from Steve Askew (ex.Kajagoogoo), approached him for help recording a song for her music G.C.S.E. The song she wrote (KISS YOU {The Stalker}) needed arranging and recording so Steve seemed like the perfect guy to do it. However after Steve played the track to ex Kajagoogoo band mate, Nick Beggs, the penny dropped and a fully-fledged band project was born. Although the lead vocals at the time were done by a friend of Hayleys’, a permanent lead singer had to be found and after Steve and Nick held auditions at music schools across the country Alex Stamp was found. Alex was in her final year of music tech and was to graduate with an honours diploma in music. The intense study time was interrupted by hearing of the audition at her school, which she tried out for. Her crystalline vocal style secured the position for her almost immediately, and has contributed the bands original sound. During 2004/05 the band worked together to record their first album ‘A pocket full of magnetic letters’ and signed to Flying Saucer Music for a release in Japan through Sony Music. Their first single, due to be released this summer is ‘Sugar Bomb Baby’. Written by Nick Beggs and Steve Askew. The song had originally been written ten years earlier but never used. The rest of the record came together very quickly after contributions to the writing formula from Alex and Hayley. ‘Not the end’ a song written by Alex features her delicate piano technique and introspective lyrical approach. In contrast songs such as ‘Big Hand Man’ written by Hayley give a more thrashy edge to the bands writing style. ‘Yeah! Everyone thinks that song is about something dirty.’ Complains Hayley. ‘But it’s so not.’ Sick of a UK music industry dominated by Simon Cowell, the girls have sought a different route to the top. The first territory to release their material will be Japan, in 2005. Once they have established a name for themselves in the hearts and minds of the Japanese, they hope to forge their way home, westward in a blaze of glory.
